Wedding gown shopping tips from La Jeune Mariee

When to come

  1. Start shopping a year before your wedding date if you can - this will give you time to find the gown of your dreams.
  2. Order your bridal gown at least 9 months before your wedding if you are able to - this is the best time frame to avoid stress when scheduling alterations appointments and your final gown steaming. Gowns can be ordered closer to your wedding date - call us for details.
  3. Make your appointment when you can bring a trusted friend or family member who will be involved in the final decision-making.

Who to bring

  1. Bring one or two trusted people to help you make decisions. Don’t bring a large group, or you will have too many opinions to work with (remember, everyone has their own sense of style, choose people who know and respect yours!)
  2. Don’t bring small children. You should be the center of attention.

What to wear

  1. Wear your hair in a style similar to one you will have on your wedding day. This will help you see a more complete picture of what you will look like on your wedding day.
  2. Don’t wear a lot of makeup, it will be harder to change in and out of dresses if you have to worry about getting lipstick on everything.
  3. Wear appropriate undergarments (If you do not have a strapless bra, we can provide one). Remember, you may need help changing!
  4. Bring comfortable heels, if you have some. Our sample gowns are pretty long and wearing heels will be easier than standing on your tip-toes.

What to think about

  1. Bring magazine clippings of gown styles you like. Know your style. Adore lace? Dislike embroidery? Let us know! Before you visit our boutique, check out our designers’ websites. Is this the style you are looking for? Let us know which ones are your favorites.
