10 Things You Should Know Before Your First Bridal Appointment

-Hey Future Mrs!-

Time & time again we have brides feeling clueless on what to expect for their first bridal appointment, which definitely can cause some unnecessary wedding stress! So this week we decided to give you the 411 on what to expect for your first bridal appointment! Don't be scared, by the end of this you'll be a bridal appointment expert!

1. Come in with an open mind

If we had a dollar for every time a bride came in looking for one style of a gown & fell in love with the total opposite, lets just say we would be giving out wedding gowns for free! Go outside your comfort zone & try all silhouettes, the worst you can say is no! We promise it will make you feel better knowing you tried it & didn't like it instead of always wondering.

2. You'll be best friends with your stylist by the end of your appointment

As bridal stylists' it's our job to adjust things to make sure the samples lay as realistic as possible, which sometimes means we will be in your personal bubble! Also be prepared to strip down to your bra & underwear, sometimes less! We've seen just about everything in the fitting rooms so anything you do or don't have is going to offend us! The most important thing is that you feel comfortable so make sure you communicate that with your stylist.

3. Your opinion matters the most

It's great to have your bride tribe & family's opinion of course BUT remember, you're the one who has to wear the gown. It would be terrible to look back & regret the decision you made! Just make sure you make the decision for yourself & no one else!

4. The search can be as easy or as hard as you make it

Some brides feel they need to go to 10 different bridal stores just to make sure they didn't miss anything! Going multiple places can be extremely overwhelming. Here's the thing, if you feel great in your gown, it has everything you asked for, & you don't want to take it off, chances are you've found your wedding gown!

5. Speak up!

If you don't like a dress, tell your stylist & try to communicate what it is you don't like about the gown! It makes it easier if we can work it out together instead of us just pulling the same gowns with the same details you don't like. As a stylist we tend to explain things or use terms that some brides don't understand, that's totally okay! Just ask & we can break it down for you!

6. Stay away from gowns outside your budget

A lot of the times we have brides ask to try gowns on that are drastically outside their budget. We are fine with putting you in the gown of course but the worst part about our job is seeing a heartbroken bride because she fell in love with a gown that she couldn't afford! If you are one of those brides who is willing to live on the wild side & go a little outside of the budget, don't worry! We have a consignment store called LUXEredux that you can definitely make back some of that extra cash you weren't planning on spending!

7. Bridal sizing stinks

Once we've taken your measurements & explain sizing to you, don't get caught up on the number! Bridal sizing loves to make you feel bad about yourself so just go with the flow & pretend that the numbers don't exist!

8. Venue vs Gown

Listen, we know our brides want all things to flow with one another but at the end of the day, your gown can be whatever you want it to be. You can then make the details of the wedding match you, not the other way around. It's important to feel confident in what you're wearing the entire night instead of worrying about if your gown reflects your venue!

9. Not everyone is a cryer

Time & time again we have brides who wait for that big emotional meltdown to confirm that the gown they love is "The One," but not every bride does. Your bridal gown is absolutely one of the most memorable clothing purchases you will ever make, but it's ultimately just another piece of clothing. Do you cry when you find the perfect pair of jeans? Probably not, you just know they are the winner because of how you feel in them!

With all the planning & the stress that comes along with the wedding, your bridal gown shopping should be the part where you have the most fun (except for the big day of course)! It's okay to be nervous but don't stress yourself out about it. You'll find the gown, don't worry!

Trust your wedding gown intuition! You've got this & we are here to help you in anyway we can.

Unique Guest Books That Aren't Actually Books

- Hey Future Mrs! -

You don’t have to tell us… we know… it’s been awhile since we have blogged, but its just because we have been busy with our beautiful brides-to-be! We have come up with some great ideas on how to turn your “basic guest book” into some fun & useful items.

Let’s be real, what are you going to do with your guest book after the big day anyway? Read it Probably not! More than likely it will go into storage for the next 40 years. Okay, that might have been a little dramatic but you get the point! Here are 5 of our favorite unique guest book ideas.

1.          Message in a bottle

How cute! Do a bottle for your 1 year, 5 year, or 10 year anniversary & so on. It will be a great laugh & flashback to what your lovely guests had to say on your wedding day. BONUS: You get to drink a few bottles in the name of wedding prep!

2.        Bucket List

To all our adventurous couples, this is a perfect idea for you! Endless bucket list ideas means never a dull moment.

(Etsy, Printshopstudio)

3.        Polaroid Memories

Click it, stick it, & sign it! No other explanation necessary.

 (Etsy, MulberryMarketDesign)

4.        Question/ Prediction cards

I’d say this is a good way to tell which of your guest knows you best! Have your guest predict your future, then turn it into a cute notebook you can re-read every anniversary!

 (Etsy, SizzleConeDesign)

5.        Canvas Picture

Have a favorite engagement picture? Make a blow up canvas & have your friends & family sign it. Talk about an easy first home décor piece!

(Etsy, MissDesignBerryInc)

It’s the minor details that makes your wedding stand out from all the rest! What’s most important is that it’s fun & reflects how awesome you & your fiancé are! Stay tuned for next week when we get into the real life talk on what you need to know before your first bridal appointment!

My Summer as an LJM Girl

The weekend is so close and hopefully the weather stays beautiful so everyone can go out and enjoy themselves! This blog post is going to be a little different today because I am going to talk about working in bridal. I'm a Fashion Merchandising Major at Kent State and I've had the wonderful opportunity of interning for La Jeune Mariee this summer and I'm very sad to say, it's my last day here. As much as I've loved working in bridal, it's not all about the cupcakes, champagne and pretty dresses. Yes we absolutely love all those things but working in bridal is some tough work, more than people realize! A lot of people relate working in bridal to the 'Say Yes to the Dress' TV show and even though I do love a good episode of 'Say Yes to the Dress", that's far from what it's actually like. Yes, we do have a lot of bridal appointments and there are a lot of say yes to the dress moments but it's the things we have to do besides that. Every day there's always something to do. And when you're finished there's even more to do especially if there's a Trunk Show coming up! Now I personally like this, because I love staying busy and at the end of the day, you feel like you've accomplished something!

Even though bridal is some tough work, I absolutely love it. All the tough work is worth it, when you have those say yes to the dress moments. When you watch someone tear up because of putting on a dress, you know its "THE" dress and it makes it all worth while. I'm forever grateful that I had the opportunity to experience the bridal industry and for all the people here at La Jeune Mariee and everything they've done for me! I've loved my time here and I'm sad that it's gone by so fast!
